Arming my Elk M1 in STAY mode while there's motion?

My motions are all set as type 4 (Burglar Interior), except for keypad/entryway motions which are set to type 5 (Burglar Interior Follower).

Does anyone know if it's possible to arm the Elk M1 in STAY mode while motion is detected? If so, what options I must set?

Thanks!

I think you could program them to be "by-passable" and then bypass them at the keypad prior to arming the system.

It would probably be easier to lay off the coffee and stand still a few seconds at the keypad though... :)

Haha... thanks for the suggestion. :) Unfortunately, the problem is the little children running around. :)

Bypassing them doesn't sound like a good option.

I'm switching from DSC alarm panel, which had no problem arming while there was motion. I'm surprised this is an issue with the Elk - why would it care if there was motion if I'm arming in STAY mode anyway?

Bypassing just means they won't inhibit you from arming the system. As soon as the zone goes secure (no motion) the bypass for that zone will no longer be in effect (I think, I have never used it on an interior zone). I understand your point though, arming in stay mode means you are not going to trigger the alarm with a motion, so why inhibit it? I'm sure wiser users than me will step in and give an explanation.

Set the zones that have the motion sensors to "force armable". That way you can arm even if those zones are violated. In stay mode they will be ignored when the system arms anyway.

This is more for my wife than me, and I think having her manually bypass zones from the keypad is more of a hassle than making sure all motion is stopped.

This looks like the option I'm looking for, except the documentation says you can't 'quick arm' when a force armable zone is violated. I'll have to test this out and see what the most convenient option is...

Thanks guys!

It'd be nice if I could use the motion sensor (as an interior zone) for turning on the lights when the motion is sensed during stay mode, however, I don't think it'd be possible to automatically change from Interior Zone (for the away mode) and non-alarm zone (for stay mode).

Why can't you do this? Whenever zone x become not secure, and area x is armed stay, turn on light...

Oh, okay, so if I have a motion detector zone set to Interior or Interior Follower, the motion detector can still be tripped while in stay mode?

I am awaiting the delivery of Elk, so I don't have it right now.

This is correct - you would need to enter a code and press "stay" rather than simply pressing "stay".

Yep, tested it this morning just to make sure.
