Today, Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. announced a new product line - mFi, which they are describing as a Machine Communications Platform.
This looks like they took on some of the building control system that Cisco pitched for a little while, but I've never seen in use. They've combined a system of sensors (door/window, occupancy, temperature, power) with a software platform for monitoring and controlling the environment. They also have with them a set of power monitoring and control options, including 1, 4 and 8 port power strips that can sense power consumption on each individual port, and can be switched/automated via the software (based on triggers such as time, light/motion activity, etc). What's more, this entire network is based on an IP network.
