Lutron had a pretty big booth, and the hardware on display was definitely pretty impressive, and the booth was pretty busy. In fact, it was so packed, I just could not get pictures of all the equipment on display, and due to lack of time, I was unable to make it back. Here is a quick overview of the things I was able to see.
can't reply to the full article so i will reply on here...
I really like the Lutron booth this year. For me it was one of the highlights of the whole show.
For RA2 at least Lutron has decided on a trifecta solution of lighting, hvac, and energy management.
They have revamped their repeater and chronos into one unit with both tcp and serial 3rd party support. The repeater/chronos replacement looks much better compared to the old Chronos bulk metal boxes.
They now have an in wall single gang controller that also controls local load so that was nice.
Also they are coming out with a switch that can identify the type of electrical circuit and adapt accordingly on the fly (the example used was a normal switch vs. low voltage). This will remove the need to purchase different switches based on electrical needs.
They stated that they will release their own hvac unit sometime next year although i wonder if they can support others also as i believe i saw 3rd party hvac units being used in the energy monitoring section of the booth.
They have battery temp sensors which report back to hvac (and/or repeater?) and hvac will be able to adjust accordingly. you can use a single sensor and set a temp rule or use multiple sensors and average the temp. hvac will automatically update based on the hvac setting.
The iphone and ipad apps both look well designed.
I didn't get into the energy management part so i would like to know are they going to do something like TED where a device checks the phases coming into the home or will they have something more granular where all of the ra2 devices themselves are reporting back to the repeater.
The ra2 (and i think it is the same for QS) software was pretty easy to use.
Their shades are always the best. can't hear a thing in a quiet room never mind on a loud show flow.
