If there is one thing I have to give SmartHome props for, it is the fact that they keep pumping out new INSTEON products on a regular basis, especially compared with their competition.  It kind of reminds me of the good old X10 days, where there was a huge selection of X10 compatible hardware available.  I would guess the only other technology coming this close now is the Z-Wave hardware.

This time, they are getting ready to release a new INSTEON remote control dimmer switch, based on their newer Dual-Band technology.  Besides the part number (2477D), no other information is available yet.

Very interesting, but not sure how this evades Lutron's patents.

They had no choice but to go dual band. They should have from day 1 and they would have avoided a lot of the bad PR (not all of it for the quality issues of the hardware). This will fix a lot of the reliability issues of Insteon communications since their PLC signal is so weak and easily affected by noise etc.

Kudo's to them for finally fixing the problem (hopefully) that has been around since day 1. If they also fixed the QC issues they may have a viable product.
