Basic Elk Install Questions

I looked around a bit and could not find the answer to this one. Is there a better place to find Noobie answers like this?

I have a ELK with an elk-m1xin (http://www.elkproducts.com/pdf/M1XIN_Input_Expander.pdf)

I am hooking up a NEXT K9-85 Motion PIR (http://www.smarthome.com/73904.html) (install doc is here:http://www.visonic.com/VisonicHomePage.nsf/sysAllDocuments/7EAAAE0591C04C2CC2256BFD0021130E/$FILE/Next_K985_English_Installation_Instructions.pdf)

There are 8 contacts on the PIR

Tamp 1
Tamp 2
N.C. 1
N.C. 2
EOL
12V+
12V-
TST

I assume that I connect it like this

Tamp 1 - OPEN
Tamp 2 - OPEN
N.C. 1 - Z1 (M1XIN)
N.C. 2 - NEG (next to Z1 M1XIN)
EOL - connect to N.C. 2
12V+ - +12 (M1XIN)
12V- - NEG (next to +12 on M1XIN)
TST - OPEN

Questions:

1. It seems to work, but I needed to setup the ElkRP as Type = Normally Closed. I would have expected it to work with the EOL.

2. Also what about the "Tamp" contacts. I assume this is "loop tamper protection". What is this?

3. How many PIRs can I connect to the +12v of the M1XIN?

=============================

Unrelated question. I plan on running a single wire up to my attic, and then putting my ELK-M1DBH, M1XIN, and M1XRF up there. This way I don't have to run as many wires up into the attic, and I assume the XRF will get better reception up there. True?

Hi, If you want it supervised, You need to connect NC1 to Z1, Eol to Neg, And place the resistor between NC2 and Eol.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Thanks! That did the trick. Do you know the answer to the other questions?
Hi, The tampers I would not worry about. Who is going to come into your house while the system is not armed and mess with your motions??
As for how many motions you can power, I forget the amount of current the M1 output has, But just add up all of the current draws of your devices. As lond as this is less than the M1's output rating. You will be fine.
If you are unsure, Just add another power supply. You can find them on Ebay..Cheep. If not, let me know I have plenty.

If you want to use the tamper you need to connect to another zone. Or you can do the 4 state zone wiring on page 9 of the M1 installation guide.

I can't speak for sure to using the voltage connections on the expander. I used pd9's connected to the M1 Aux power which is probably overkill. But I never took using those to power devices as a possibility, I thought they were only for hooking the expander to the M1.
