A Co-worker caught wind that I was waiting for my compression tool to show up and brought his compression tool from home for me to work with this weekend. My wife was working all weekend, which gave me some free time to ring out all the coax in the house and put ends on them and terminate them into the breakout panel. I didn’t have any RG59 ends yet, so there is still 9 cables not done. I was able to plug the satellite receiver into my Yamaha receiver to take advantage of the video switching on the amplifier. This was all in preparation for the installation of the in-ceiling speakers that a friend and I were going to install Sunday.
When I pre-wired the house, I also built and installed boxes for the speakers. There were 18 boxes all in all, including 5 in the living room. I wrote down rough measurements where the boxes were installed, with directions such as “40 inches from window and 83 inches from bathroom wall.†to give me an idea where the boxes were. We then drilled a hole in the drywall just big enough to get a coat hanger to poke through to see if we hit the back of the box. The first hole, we hit a stud………..
We then used the “knock test†where I would knock on the drywall to listen for the hollow/not hollow sounds to locate the speaker opening. We only missed 1 other time, and that is because the measurement I wrote down was way off……..too many beers at the end of the day back then I guess. Alas, we got all the speakers installed, all the holes patched with drywall mud and everything wired into the receiver downstairs. What a difference! Despite the low price, these monoprice speakers sound pretty good.
When the speakers were finished I went to work on the TEMP08. I got a power supply installed on it and powered it up. I had to install HyperTerminal on my server but got talking to the TEMP08 and receiving readings. I bought some break-out blocks and mounted them on the wall, and wired the RJ12 on the TEMP08 to the break out blocks. This will make it easier in the future to add extra sensors.
I wired 1 sensor into the break out block to make sure the whole mess was going to work, and the TEMP08 picked it up right away. I left the server logging all the readings so I can chart them later this week.
