bRight switch (touchscreen switch)

The bRight switch development seems to be coming along http://www.getbrightswitch.com/update-5-23-14-sneak-peek

At the bottom of the page they mention:
We’ll be making some of the demonstration systems available to the media soon. If you are with a publication or website that would like a demo for review purposes please contact[email protected] to get put on the list.

It would be great for CocoonTech to get one and publish a review

The front side is larger than a standard switch plate cover but in the back it's standard single gang size.  You would not be able to use it in a standard 2 or more gang box with any other switch in the other side because of the size of the front.

They do have this option for a 2 gang box.  Not sure what other gang sizes they will support

Also remember a single bRight switch should be able to control multiple z-wave or possibly other smart devices.

My thinking is you would use the bRight in just a few locations, not to replace every switch.  You also might want to mount them in new locations rather than in existing gang boxes.  I think the bRight would be best mounted higher at eye level rather than at the typical light switch height.  More like typical thermostat height.

Very nice find Automate and the price is right!

I am totally impressed with the features set.
Here I went to single UPB / dual load / multitoggle switches replacing the two switch double gang look back to single switches over double gang boxes with oversized wall switch plate covers (which really were a pita to find).

My big question will be how readily will it be programmable for other lighting systems.  I've no need for it to control a lighting load, nor other zwave lights (as I've got all RA2 lighting).  But since it's basically an android device it might be possible to use it for other things too.

The price point is pretty good for the functionality.

They appear to be line voltage only.  Which given most doorways are already likely to have that nearby, doesn't seem like an unreasonable plan.  Given that the high voltage components are on a separate board might hold hope for alternatives like PoE at some point.

I just don't think this would be the right fit for our forum.  Crowd sourced funded projects are just to risky.

I'd venture there's not too many other fora online that would be as useful as this one.  The range of experience of fellow members here would certainly make for interesting conversations about these emerging gizmos.  Sure, the crowd funding scheme isn't without it's issues, but I'd definitely put more stock in the opinions hosted somewhere OTHER than one of their forum systems.

I'm in agreement with wkearney99 on all fronts on this one...

1) I see no real use for this switch as designed - I don't need it as a weird little z-wave automation device - but the proposed functionality if totally unlocked and put towards something else could really be awesome.  Even HSTouch would be great.  But using it to transmit Bluetooth to something else in the room - no thanks; Bluetooth quality sucks; and I want my automation centrally managed.

2) While I have almost zero faith in any crowdfunded automation project and really wish most of them would stop acting like they're the first one to ever think of this, and instead fill larger gaps or start leading standards...  I'm very interested in watching what's going on in the marketplace just to see how the technology emerges.  I can't see a better forum than cocoontech to introduce and watch these interesting projects as they develop - of course with a full understanding of what it means to back any crowdfunded project.  I think a dedicated subforum is a great place - especially since the What's New filter allows people to filter it out entirely if they're not interested - better than having them intermixed as new members come in and want to talk about something new posting wherever something seems to fit.

By hosting a dedicated forum for crowd sourced funded projects, a new user would think that this forum promotes such endevours, which we certainly do not! ;)
