can composite sensors sense component video?

I have someone offering me one of the AMX VSS2 video sensor, but it only has jacks for composite video. Does anyone know if I could hook up one channel of my component video cables to this and achieve the same result?

Yup, it should work like a charm on the Y signal (green).
