Circuit City Closing (No Hot Deals for You!)

Yeah just got 10 hdmi cables and 20 component cables from monoprice, always happy with them. Still cost me less than that $90 hdmi cable I bought from circuit city years ago (bargain my *#$)

I went there a couple of weeks ago with my wife to purchase a shredder. No deals. Looked around and saw no other deals but still saw lines at the cash registers. Yes people are very gullible when it comes to "liquidation" bargains.

I just stumbled across a Circuit City location that hasn't been picked clean. They had a bunch of boxes of 22/2 and 22/4 security wire as well as CAT5e in 1000ft boxes for ~$40/box. Pretty much all labeled Honeywell.

Amazingly there were a few things on the shelves that were reasonably priced even prior to taking the percentage off. There were also those items so ridiculously priced that you couldn't help but giggle at the thought of the sucker who buys them.

I stopped in this weekend to see if they had any good deals on the store fixtures. Nope, they wanted too much for what they were. I did manage to get a few deals on some Video Games. Picked up PS3 Guitar Hero Aerosmith Edition for $41 ($64.82 @ Walmart) and PC Neverwinter Nights 2 for $20 ($39.82 @ Walmart).

PC Neverwinter Nights 2 for $20 ($39.82 @ Walmart).

My condolences on wasting $20. :P

Me and 3 other friends were all deeply disappointed by the game, though we only gave it a couple day's worth of effort. It might be fun as a single player game. And I'm only kidding about wasting $20....I wasted closer to $80 on two copies. ;)

I'm playing the single player version (always do), and so far it's not too bad. My only complaint so far is how fast the screen rotates when you move the cursor to the side. I started with Baldur's Gate II SoA and have IWD, IWDII, NWN and now NWN2 plus Pool of Radiance. They all have their good/bad points. The nice thing about NWN and NWN2 is that you can make your own modules to share with friends. Baldur's Gate II SoA is by far the best and my favorite, too bad my Disc 2 has vanished ;) and my Disc 4 is scratched :P . I have to see if I can find it online anywhere. I also need to find the two NWN expansions. Cool to see a fellow PC D&D fan.

Well, where NWN2 failed for us was in the "group fun" category. We were all used to WoW, which is a user interface delight. NWN2 seems more hostile to just playing.

My wife and I played BG2 together, and I think that was our standard for playing games like NWN2, and perhaps it was the nostalgia of that first co-gaming experience, but NWN2 just seems so much more jarring and baffling than BG2 was. That, along with needing an advanced degree in Geekery just to try and figure out what kind of character to create made it much less fun than we had hoped it'd be.

The only game I ever got my wife to play with me is Diablo II. She likes the "keep clicking on it until its dead" style of play and does not like, understand or have the patience for turn based games.

Hahah...I can understand that about diabloII. It certainly attracts a certain kind of player. I never could stand all that clicking.

My wife liked the turn based because it never felt so frantic that you had no idea what was going on. We'd pause it, plan out our attack, and then unpause, etc. She mainly just like having her own character she could customize and make her own, and she also liked lockpicking for treasure.

I think the pacing is part of what we don't like about NWN2...by the time you figured out what you needed to do to help in the battle, it was already over. The pace of battle in NWN2 makes WoW feel slow by comparison, and a lot goes on during a battle in WoW. What can I say, WoW isn't D&D at all, but it certainly hits a particular nerve for simple "fun".

My wife & I usually play "oh my god this house is a pigsty and I can't believe we live like this and you better put that laptop down right now and help me scrub the entire house top to bottom".

Very FirstPersonShooter, very realistic, and my god do you have to look left/right quickly and accurately as you never know where the next attack will come from. Plus my wife has all sorts of crazy bonus points and an unlimited arsenal of weapons against which there is no defense.

Talk about Dungeons...

I've played that game as well. There is no "Quit Game" button either. ;)

Ever since I bought my wife a new Dyson, she has been calm, cool and collected. She won't let me near it and doesn't ask for help.
Wonder how long that will last.... Perhaps the Dyson has functions I don't know about?
