Clipsal / Square D

I was perusing the latest HA spreadsheet - and noticed the Clipsal entry. The spreadsheet seems to indicate that the system is similar to ALC/OnQ - but when browsing their site, it seems to require that the HV runs are central as opposed to a switch - is that accurate?

Are there some standard rocker switches available or only the scene switches? Scene switches are great, but i need to phase this system in so just doing rocker switch replacements a few at a time is what I was hoping for.

The Clipsal system uses central or distributed lighting control modules and low voltage wiring running to the switch plates. Ness Security in Australia has an interface to connect the Elk M1 to the Clipsal system.

Hi Guys

The Clipsal system uses cat5 (low voltage 36v dc) connected to the switches and other modules..The H.V. runs from the lights back to the Dimmer/Relay modules...

You could star wire your switches back to the location where your going to install your dimmer/relay modules and use the cat5 to initially drive say 12v dc relays which will switch the hv and then swap out a bank at a time when ready ?? Hope that makes sense....

Heres a link to some old info on my retrofit install ....

Hi broconne,

C-Bus/Square-D is a brillant robust system. I have it fully implimented in my new house here in Australia. Assuming ELK supports the interface that Spanky refers to from Ness here in Austalia then I would recommend having a serious look at it. The configuration tool is very nice "Toolkit" and from what I have seen the keypad switches that C-Bus has to offer are second to none. Realy elegant and easy to program.

Have a look... happy to answer any questions based on my experience

Thanks for the link and pictures. Having spent a few months in Australia, I must say those switches are ummm from Australia :)

Do you have any local dimming control from that switch?

Switches are anything you want. Using toolkit you program the switch to be either a toggle, dimmer, on, off, bell press, scene, scene modifier, timer (and it goes on and on). Each switch can do any load onthe C-Bus network and can then be changes later on if you so desire (As I have done many times).

To dim you press and hold the button in and it will ramp up. A short press will turn it on full (soft on feature used to extend bulb life). Similarly a long press will ramp it down and a short press will turn it off.

There is a C-Bus forum that has lots of great info as well. Some of the Clipsal guys visit there and contribute.

Do you know if they have plans to introduce decora style switches?

Man, those are still some ugly switches IMHO.

Well the Decora style switches i have seen on the web arent what i would call pretty ;-) and i think if you seen the clipsal Saturn + DLT,s in the flesh you might change your mind ;-)....
