Connecting SM120X to ELK M1 gold

I have a few questions on connecting SM120X to ELK M1 Gold:
1. Do I use a 18/2 to connect the two? Are there specific requirements on the wire? I remember seeing discussions on firewire.
2. How do I connect 18/2 to SM120X? Do I connect one of the 18/2 to the Yellow (NC) wire, and the other to the Blue (COM) wire?
3. How do I connect the other end of the 18/2 to ELK M1 gold? Can I use any of the input zones? I believe input z16 is only for the 2-wire smoke detectors. This requirement doesn't apply to relays. Is this right?

1. I used 18/2 FT4 (CL2 rated wire)

3. Treat it as a door contact or any sensors that connect to the input zones. Dont connect to zone 16
