Contact Wire question

Hi,

This is a simple question to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm ready to install all my doors and windows wiring for all the contacts. I have not selected the contacts yet but I believe this is basic. My question is: Do you see aproblem using 18-2 Stranded for my alarms contacs?

I'm asking becasue a friend gave me left over from his commercial building installation. I got 12 boxes of partially used and some almost full boxes of this wire: Commscope S21ASSTR 2/18 AWG SHIELDED TYPE CMR (ETL) C(ETL) CMG 9700851 MADE IN USA JS48031.

From my research I believe I should be fine using this wire but I'm doinf this last check before procefing with the installation.

18-2 will work fine. if you don't use the shield make sure to cut and /or safe off the drain wire.

It's gonna take up a lot more space when you get to your panel though.

Yeah, I think you're nuts. 22/2 wire is cheap. Sell the 18/2 here to someone on Cocoontech that needs it for something else and take the extra money and buy yourself a nice lunch somewhere.

18/2 will be tricky I think whether you plan on using B connectors or contacts with screw in terminals (especially with these).
