Hello again folks.
I have a few questions about Cortexa that I hope you can shed some light on. I'm excited about their new package but I think I'm still confused about how it interfaces to HA products throughout one's home.
I haven't decided on an HA strategy so all avenues are still open. I was planning on using HAI Omni and UPB until this came along. Audio and Video will come down the line after lighting and sprinkler control are working.
I'd like to do some custom HA rules such as:
When "in the middle of the night" and the bathroom light turns on, start 10 minute timer and then shut off light. (pseudo code, I know)
Or when PIR (in closet) is triggered, turn on light for 10 minutes.
It's sorta clear how to do this type of stuff through ELK or OMNI but can the Cortexa do this work w/o the need of an external controller. (assuming I'm leaving security out of it for now)
It doesn't do things like, when front door opens, turn on foyer light for 10 minutes.
Also, it looks like you need to purchase an external relay interface for your sprinkler valves.
OK, I'm long winded and still haven't asked my question. I guess my question is simply, where is the line drawn? It looks like basic lighting control is possible w/o an external controller but that's about it.
It seems this device really starts to shine with its A/V distribution and control.
With all this being said, it seems the Omni may be over kill if I can see a Cortexa in my future for A/V. Is the Elk a better choice because of less overlap (economical)? Maybe one could just use the EZ model would suffice instead of the M1G.
Thoughts?
