Counters are reseted afer some minutes

Hello!

I'm using a Hobbyboard 1-wire Dual counter module and seven DS18B20 in combination with a DS9490R-A to measure the fuel consumption, rpm and temperatures of my boat engine. The Software is written by myself in Visual Basic 6.
The same software is used for House automation (i.e. gas gauge).
The DS18B20 are powered via the DS9490R. The Dual counter module is only powered via the battery.

Now i have the following problem.
All works well for up to 15 minutes then from one second to another both counters jump to 0 (zero) and stop working for some minutes. Some minutes later the counters work again (but start with 0). (Sorry for my english, i hope you understand.) The DS18B20 are still working correctly.

Due to this problem i have separated the counting module with opto couplers from the flow and rpm sensor but the problem still exists.

The same software at home runs since weeks and counts the gas consumption of my home without any problems.
(Here i don't use the Dual couner module from hobbyboards, here i have used a single DS2423 in my own pcb.)

Any ideas what happens?

Regards
Erich

Erich,

The counters shouldn't be able to reset unless the battery is flat. Is there something that happens on the boat that could cause a power spike or dip when the counter starts acting up?

Hi Eric,
i cannot exclude that something happens on the powerline. But it's implausible because, as mentioned i have separated the input of the counter with an opto coupler and the 1-wire net is only connected to the PC via the 1-wire USB-Dongle. The PC is powered from the 12V line of the boat via a notebook car power supply. And the PC works fine, no bluescreen or so.
I also thought that the battery was the reason therefore i have changed it with a absolute new one (3,2V). But the problem still remains.

Erich

Well, I dont know if a problem is solved, but I think it may be a vibration which make a difference, also some moister ( according Erci website, only lighting board have protective coat ).
