devices for ELK- M1G

I am working on putting together a shopping list of devices. We just bought an Elk M1G system and are providing for a wired system alarm components.

Carbon Monoxide: GE 250CO
Motions: Ademco aurora or Bosch ISC-BDL2WP (we don't have pets now but it would be nice to provide for in future).
Motion/Glass:
BV-500GB
Glass: Sentrol 5812NT (GE shatterpro 3)
Water leaks: Winland waterbugs WB-200 with additional sensors
Temp sensor sender: ELK-M1ZTS
Stobe: ELK-sl1a
Gas leak detectors: ???
Heat detectors????
Smoke alarm (22/4 wire, home run is what we provided for):????
surface mounted door/window sensors????? (smaller the better)
Recessed door/window sensors
Sirens: ??? (any models that are low profile and more attractive to look at)

I would like to look at some combined devices if possible. the motion/glass detector is a nice device except that it will not work for pets. Do they make a gas leak/smoke detector? I was also told that they make smoke/motion sensor devices but have not found much information on this.

Finally, is it possible to put two motion sensors on one 22/4 wire?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

First, you have the incorrect wire for a fire alarm application, so I'd be abandoning it. You need a minimum of an 18AWG for fire, appropriately rated cabling.

I would look into a different glassbreak rather than wasting the effort for the Bravo glassbreak/PIR combos, since you're compromising location and operation on each.

As far as the glassbreaks, I don't like shatterboxes at all, I'm more partial to other units that tend to perform better.

Gas detectors, typically Macuro/3M. There are no such combo units for smoke/motion or gas/smoke, as they have different design parameters. Depending on the hazard, the mounting height for gas can either be high or low, as well as the particular sensing element.

I typically use Elk SP12F's for interior speakers, wired for an appropriate load on the M1. I also use Honeywell PAL-T's for surface contacts. I'm pretty sure the recessed contacts are Honeywell 944's, with a selection based on application.

You can wire 2 detectors on a single 22/4 and have 2 independent zones, however I'd use 2 separate cables where possible.

Thanks for your response. For the smokes, i have short runs (around 30feet) and i am told by system sensor that it should be ok with 22/4. Unfortunately, i had not properly researched.

Glassbreaks: do you recommend any particular model number? I saw several recommendation for the shatterbox. any reason for not liking?

Gas detector: Macuro/3M i found the GD-2A. I am looking for natural gas to be installed in kitchen and boiler room. Do you recommend any other models? I could not find any mounting instructions.

motion/glass break: i will look at this unit only where we have no other option.

As I am doing my own install, it will be trial an error until i get it right. I want to learn so it is best way to do so....

thanks for your help.

System Sensor dropped the ball on your wire AWG, it'll work, however the minimum size is listed in code, and going smaller really should only be used in an existing install that is grandfathered prior to the NEC articles specifying minimum AWG's. It's a very grey/black area, especially if insurers are involved, not to mention, if a loss actually occurs at some point.

Macuro used to offer 2 gas detectors that I know of, with the difference being the type of hazard and the mounting heights. Any specific requirements, I would defer to them and their installation instructions, so I would contact them based on your design criteria.
