Does my switch support "beam"ing?

Hi,

I am brand new to all this z-wave business and have purchased a few items to get started. I picked up a Mi Casa Verde Vera 2, a Kwisket lever lock and a GE 45614 3-way switch and a appliance on/off plug in module from an online retailer. The question is obvious from here. How can I tell if the 3-way switch supports beaming so that it can relay to the lock if need be? It is marked version 3.0 on the back with a date code of 0927. I had read elsewhere that the version number has to be 2.0a or 3.0a in order to support beam mode. Is this the case?

Can the switch firmware be updated by the end user?

Any hopes I can get Jasco or GE to swap my current ones for the new ones if necessary? I have not opened the packaging yet.

Thanks,
Chad

Rich posted this on the HomeSeer message board a couple of days ago about products that support beaming:
"* All Jasco products in our store
* All ACT products ZRP100 and ZDP100

From Jasco Support just in case it matters to someone else.

You are correct that the only switches that have the beaming technology
are the 2.0a and 3.0a, unfortunately we do not have a program to
exchange products in that fashion. I would recommend returning it to the
place of purchase for an exchange if they have newer units in stock.

I am going to contact the vendor I bought mine from and see if they can manually check for the 2.0a or 3.0a firmware and do a swap. I could see vendors being bugged by the requests though and I can't say that I would blame them. Problem is that I can't buy these things locally so therein lies the rub. I also need a Jasco 45609 2-way switch and will have the same need for beam mode on that one as well.

Thanks for the update, that's definitely going to be a pain, but this info will help others.
