use a volt meter to identify which end of the existing plug, and its corresponding wires you cut from the wall wart, is positive and negative so as to ensure you power up the M1XEP correctly.
Also, even though you power up all your home equipement via batts and UPSes... ensure your ISP is still available to get an email if neighborhood power goes out. The Time Warner cable system here has boxes on the telephone poles that convert the fiber optic signals to copper coax. When the power goes out, my internet goes out too.
I use email for most Elk occurances, but I use a cellular dialer to call my cell phone if the power goes out. I built a small 110v relay thats plugged into normal 110V home outlet, thats monitored by one of the elk zones.
