The ELK-IP232, RS-232 to Ethernet Module, has been updated and released! Bootware version 1.0.6 and Firmware version 1.0.12 are available on the website at http://www.elkproducts.com/products/elk-ip232.htm

Our customers spoke and we listened -
New features:
1) The IP232 can now be used as a "client" and "server". In other words, it can INITIATE network connections as well as accept them. The "client" will automatically reconnect if the connection is lost.
2) The IP232 can receive incoming UDP network data.
3) The PC Config Utility was also updated (to version 1.1.0) to support these new features. In addition, it now allows you to save IP232 setup data to disk.

Item #1 is the BEST feature. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Even in markets other than the security market. Scientists can network test equipment together. Amature astronomers can network their telescopes. Connect an old serial printer to a local network. Connect your vacation home's M1 to your main home's M1 thru the Internet. The possibilities are endless!

The ELK IP232 is a simplified M1XEP Ethernet module designed to pass serial data from an Ethernet connection to a RS-232 port. The IP 232 server module was first designed to give the Russound CAV 6.6 whole house audio an Ethernet connection so that the TS07 touchscreen could directly talk to the Russound system. We needed multiple touchscreens to be able to talk to a single Russound system, so the IP232 can handle 12 socket connects at a time.

Additional requests and applications came about that needed the IP232 to also be a client device and start the socket connection. So with this software upgrade, which is FREE, you can have multiple IP232's talking to each other as a client or a server.

Example: A RS-232 serial port connected to a client IP232 can connect through an Ethernet connection to a server IP232 and pass the serial data back and forwards between the two modules. The IP232 client side will automatically connect when data is to be passed and disconnect when there is no data or stay connected always as a program option.

I follow the technical side of things. I was thinking more of the integration or two remote Elk panels to each other.

My thoughts:

A master ELk M1 and a slave ELk M1 that can both be controlled through the same keypad in different buildings? Maybe as separate areas?

Can you elaborate on this or am I thinking too far ahead.

Thanks

Hi,

Is anyone trying to use the IP232 under Vista? I've got one unit but the config tool will not run (so far) under Vista.

Running as admin with UAC off, the error message is:

Run-time error '429'. ActiveX component cannot create object.

Is this a known problem?

Hi Spanky,

I have just updated the IP232 firmware which is connected to my Russound CAV6.6 unit. I occassionally would get "sticky" performance on the TS07 and ELKRM. Felt the upgraded firmware might resolve the problem.....wrong! :D

For the majority of time now when I try and connect via ELKRM I get "Disconnected" when I want to talk to the Russound system. I can accosionally connect and it will work on the zone I have just switched on but typically if I look to swich another zone on it time outs and I get disconnected.

the IP232 is HW version 0.2 Bootloader 1.0.6 and Firmware 1.0.12.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and regards,

Fleetz

HI Spanky,

Can you help me out here?

Thanks and regards,

Is there are reset on the IP232?? Whilst after the ungrading to the latest fiware I was able to see the IP232 using the utility program and also pinging it my IP232 can no longer be seen.

What would be nice at this stage is to be able to reset the IP232 and assuming it still doesn't working after correct configuration again then roll back to the previous bootloader and firmware.

Is this possible?

Regards,

Fleetz
