ELK M!G - Which inexpensive CCTV DVR is compatible with their Touchscreen?

The ELK M1G alarm 7" Touchscreen has an option to view surveillance cameras. I am looking at an inexpensive option, CCTV DVR with network support. There is a list of compatible CCTV network ready DVR's on ELK's website but they only list a couple that are very expensive. After talking with tech support, they said there are many more that would work if properly configured, but ELK can't make any guarantees.

My question is, has anyone installed these less expensive DVR's found on ebay or other places & not listed on ELK's web site, and got it to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi midrar, welcome to CT!

Unless the DVR supports something like MJPEG or static JPG files, I don't think it will work. Many low end units require an ActiveX component, but some do support falling back to refreshing JPG's in non IE browsers. But even that can be tricky. I have a VITEK dvr here, and while it supports JPG's, the name changes continuously, so you can't just point to it. Your best bet maybe to get get the DVR you want, and get a network encoder which can convert the video output of the DVR into a network stream which is compatible with ELK RM/S software.

Axis has one, and I would think they would be supported, but hopefully others can chime in here.

Thanks for that quick response. What you stated makes a lot of sense. Thanks again.
