Hi, Happy New year...

I have tried to resolve my email problems in the past with no luck. So I am trying again. Any help would be great as I can not get it to work. what I have is an M1 with an m1xep connected to a Linksys router connected to a Cablevision modem. I am trying to send the messages to my iphone, The address in phone#@txt.att.net. In the setup the xep asks for the server URL/IP address??? I use Aol for my mail do I have to route the messages through them? It also asks for a FROM email address? What is the address I place here? Is it my Aol address?

Thanks for any answers,

Mike ;)

AOL has most of the information you need here:

See the "E-mail Application Setup Basics" as a start. Looks like you will need smtp.aol.com as the mail server URL, but note the port is 587. The "from" email address would be your full AOL address.

Of course there are no diagnostics in the XEP email facility, so about all you can do is experiment and hope it works. If you can't get it to work with AOL, consider getting a Cablevision email account, and start again.

The current M1XEP does not support email servers that require SSL authentication. There are more and more reports of email systems switching to that requirement. Make sure you are not using such an email system for now. Elk is working on an M1XEP upgrade to resolve the issue.

Great news. If possible, please also consider logging any SMTP error (anything other than a 2.x return code) when attempting to send an SMTP messages. I would like to be able to trigger a phone call if an SMTP email fails to be sent.

Lager,
Thanks but still a no go with aol. I get the same message no matter what I try. System did not respond. Connection may have been terminated. I will give Cablevision email a try, But I think it a setup problem with my panel.
Thanks Again,

Mike :)

Mike I had it working with cablevision a few years ago before I went to Nextalarm. With Nextalarm I dont use the emails from the XEP anymore. If cable did not change anything it should work. How? I dont remember anymore but it did take me a few trys.

Be sure your IP settings are also in order. Using a domain name for the SMTP server means that you have to have DNS addresses specified.

(Do you have the daily time server update working? If so, then your IP settings are probably good.)
