Elk M1 and swimming pool security

Has anyone used an M1 to "monitor" an inground swimming pool?

I was thinking mostly the status of the gate going into the pool (easy) and possibly the surface of the water to sense if someone falls in (harder)

Further, I dont have any easy way to get wiring to my pool area, so are there any reliable outdoor wireless sensors that could accomplish the above?

Thanks in advance.

You could probably use an outdoor rated wired contact hooked up to an Elk (or other) wireless unit in a plastic outdoor box, depending on the distance back to the receiver of course.

People have had good success either using some silicone to weatherproof an otherwise indoor-only sensor, or doing as gatchel said and putting the transmitter portion in a Pelican Case - drilling a tiny hole for the wires to exit and gooping that up with silicone.

For something as critical as swimming pool, I'd likely invest in the Elk 2-way setup and use their transmitters - then those can be adapted to a regular old contact sensor.

For the water sensor, those don't have a high satisfaction rating due to false alarms; but if you find one that looks reliable, it wouldn't be hard to adapt the remote portion to accept a wireless transmitter for the Elk as well - although they already do have a remote that is intended to be kept indoors with you.

If you have a Honeywell compatible receiver: 5800OD. Also have an outdoor motion.

If you're looking mission critical, I'd put in some Optex wireless PE beams and build a "fence" around the pool, internal to the gate(s). The float type units are prone to falses.
