ELK M1 Device Types

Looking through the various Elk M1 installation manuals, I'm finding conflicting device types for serial devices. In particular,
  • the manual for M1ZXW indicates it is a type-5 device, along with other serial devices
  • the M1XSP and M1XRF manual says that they are type-4 devices
Does anyone have a comprehensive list of device types? As a start

type 1 = keypad K1P1, K1P2, KPAS
type 2 = input M1XIN
type 3 = output M1XOV, M1XOVR
type 4 = serial M1XSP, M1XRF
type 5 = radio? M1XZW

Note that M1XRF is not type 5!

Well, according to my M1, the M1XRF2G is a type 2 input expander device.

The M1XZW reports as a type 5 serial port expander, probably because it is in fact a modified XSP running a special version of the XSP firmware.

And, FWIW, the XEP has no type because it hangs on the main serial port and not the bus.

The note in the XSP manual about being type 4 (on Page 27 of the current version, under the diagram "Diagram for Home run wiring using M1DBHR Active Data Bus Hub"), is probably either a typo or old info. I would consider more accurate this note on page 4 of the same manual:

11. Enroll the M1XSP into the M1 Control as follows: From the Keypad access the Installer level programming. Select Menu
01-Bus Module Enrollment. Press the right arrow key to start the enrollment. When the keypad indicates enrollment
complete, press the right arrow key to view the results. Among the displayed enrolled devices there should be a type 5
(T5) device at address 01.

And from page 24 of the M1 install guide:

Keypads are TYPE
1, Input (Zone) Expanders are TYPE 2, Output Expanders are TYPE 3, Serial Port Expanders are TYPE 5

So this would make this note from the XRF manual on page 5 also wrong:

Keypads are TYPE 1, Input expanders TYPE 2, Output expanders TYPE 3, Serial expanders TYPE 4.

Of course, perhaps Elk-RP and the M1 guide are wrong and the other two manuals are right! :)

This is the current types:

type 1 = keypad K1P1, K1P2, KPAS, M1KAM
type 2 = input M1XIN, M1XRF2G, M1XRF1N, new RF devices
type 3 = output M1XOV, M1XOVR
type 4 = Not Used, yet
type 5 = serial M1XSP, M1XZW Zwave

Any device on the RS-232 serial port does not have a device type such as the M1XEP Ethernet module.

For the latest Zwave connection, use the Leviton RZCOP Zwave interface to the M1XSP Serial Port Expander.
