Elk M1 Listen In vs. Voice Annunciator Confusion

We are building a new house, and had planned to use the same HAI setup we had in the last house, but since HAI is being killed by Leviton another solution is needed. The M1 seems like a good fit so I'm figuring out what will be needed.

I'm a little confused about voice and listen in capabilities. The HAI had speakers in the keypads that were used for two way listen in and also for voice.

The M1 seems to require separate speakers for voice announcements and listen in.

Is this correct?

Yes... the M1 keypads only have the ability to beep.  You can get voice output capability by adding speakers, such as the SP12F, or larger speakers like the Elk-70.  The SP12F speaker can be removed from its faceplate and mounted behind the KP2 keypad using a back box (M1BBK2).

For listen-in capability, you need a M1TWI or M1TWA, plus microphones (M1TWM) or a speaker/microphone combo (M1TWSF).
