Elk M1G firmware upgrade broke M1RB

I recently upgraded my Elk Firmware to 5.3.10 and I cannot get the M1RB output to work anymore?  The M1RB J1 is connected directly to M1G J16.   I tried to turn on the output zone and the light does not come on one of the zone on the M1RB board?
I also tried to use the script in the Elk M1G and it will not work either?   

I am current using the following versions below.
Main Program ELRP2 2.0.34
UltraM1G 3.0.6020.17037
Status connection - Ok
M1G firmware 5.3.10

It seems strange that the firmware upgrade would have any effect on the RB outputs.   Are all of the relay board outputs not working, or just one in particular?
 
The first thing I would do is measure the voltage on the M1 J16 output pin that corresponds to the output you are turning on and off and see if it changes.  If you don't see it change from 0V to 12V as you go from off to on, then that points to a problem with the M1, and perhaps the firmware. 
 
If you do see a change on the J16 voltage, then measure the other side at the relay board J1.  Measure to see if the RB is getting 12V between the + and - pins of J1.   Then measure the pin the corresponds to the output you are switching to see if the voltage is changing as the M1 J16 output changes.
 
The next thing to try would be to roll back the firmware to an earlier level and see if that fixes things.

I understand that Elk recommends that you don't install firmware updates unless necessary but I disagree with them on that. I say read the release notes and decide for yourself.
 
The 5.3.10 firmware update has a list of 13 fixes and updates and I personally installed it to fix the occasional system re-boot that I was getting.

Are you saying that a single relay doesn't work, but the other 7 do, or that all 8 relays are not turning on?
 
I just installed 5.3.10 this morning and all of my relays are working, including a bunch of the output expander boards.

We're talking a relatively basic alarm panel here. FW should be an as-needed or to address a specific issue, not as a preventative maintenance task. As much as I like Elk, they've had a few bad FW's out there.
 
The basic rule of thumb with Elk is I stay with the last UL listed version FW. Backup the system at the current state and at the revised state and always have the ability to roll back (albeit some FW versions don't allow that).
 
For the OP, I would roll back the panel and see if the issue persists, then troubleshoot as directed.
