Elk M1G: Function Key Illumination

I have the elk M1g, and have programmed it with ElkRP2. My keypad is a M1KP and I'm looking for an example of how to light a funcion key with a rule. Essentially I'd like a fucntion key to illuminate when my garage door is open. Then the button itself could be used to open/close the door.

I found an "Application Note" from Elk that describes a similar scenario, so I'm pretty sure it's possible, but they failed to give an example of the "code". I'm not allowed to post links yet, which is fine. If you're looking for the note I'm talking about, a search on google for "M1 Keypad Function Keys Illumination Events" would lead you to it.

Thanks.

There are two separate functions that you want to perform, operate the door and light the F-key. To operate the door you will need to turn on an output via a rule that activates the door opener. To light the F-key you need to set up the keypad properly in Elkrp. If you look at your keypad setup in elkrp you will see the f-key definitions near the bottom of the page. You need to choose "activates event" and illumination event" optionns for the F-key that you want to use.

I'm not very familiar with the "activates event" but I do know that many of the events that you can choose from have to do with sending a code to a monitoring service when the key is pressed. You do not want to send a code and there is in "activates event" a provision for that. I used my F4 key to disarm an area without sending a code and I used "16-non alarm" for "activates event" option. Then for "illumination event" you can choose to have the F-key light follow a zone state which would be the state of the zonne on your door that you want to monitor.

I would have to read the install manual to go into more detail and I'm into a second beer at this point so I'll leave it at that and hope that it gets you going in the right direction.

Have fun, Mike.
