Elk M1G Keypad (M1KP)

I've just connected the first keypad to the main board, but can't get it to arm in any mode (stay, exit). It is enrolled with correct address, terminated on JP2 and JP3 on main board, power cycled system. I've trace the wires to verify correct color code to (+,-, Data A/:).

If I use the RP software and arm the system with the virtual keypad it works - alarms for motion sensor, door mag. contacts. The ready light is green, LED says Ready to Arm, temp., and time display.

I can't get to the Elk videos to watch them again, their support page keeps timing out (5:30 EST on 12/08/2007). I've attached the ElK ultr prox and it will not see/enroll the key fobs. What am I missing?

If you are trying to arm with just the Stay or Away buttons make sure you have that feature enabled (and if so for one or tow presses).

If you are trying to use a code do you have that User code enabled?

Things to try:

Make sure the keypad address is set to address 1. That way it is always enrolled.

Measure the resistance on the A and B terminals with the power turned off. It should measure about 65 ohms +-10 ohms.

Make sure the keypad setup is set to area 1.

The default code is 3456.

Go to menu 1 in Installer programming and rerun the enrollment. Press the > key and see if the keypad shows up in the list of keypads. Keypad 1 is always enrolled however.

Normally, if you enter a code and nothing happens, it is a data bus problem. Sometimes the keypad will show the M1's status, but the keypad cannot talk to the M1.

Try moving the keypad to the M1 box and see if it works.

Elk videos are now on the M1dealer.elkproducts.com site

Thanks Digger and Spanky,

I've been able to get the keypad to go into an alarm state with the stay button (double press method). Looks like I'm going to have to go out and buy a multimeter for this project.
