ELK M1G questions.

ELK SP12F: I know you can use this speaker for voice or alarm but can I use it for both.
ELK-M1TWSF: This is a two way listen in mic/speaker. Can I install one of this in each room or that is overdoing it? Also, do I have to install a keypad at every location I install this two way in?
ELK-74: This a speaker/siren. would anyone recommend me installing each of this in every room? Or would it be irritating as time goes on? Also, can I use this for voice application?

Also, for the ELK TEMP sensor, can I use a cat5e cable? If so, do I use double strand for the connections or a single strand of the cat5e cable?

Yes, by installing it onto output 1. Output 1 on the M1 is for voice announcements and for siren. But voice and siren cannot operate simultaneously, so if there is an alarm the alarm takes priority, unless you are connected to the telephone, in which case, the sren cuts off and and the voice is used for the telephone announcements. To overcome this issue, many users install one or more speakers on output 1 and then install a siren on output 2.

Yes, if you have only three rooms. The M1 has a limitation of three listen-in microphones. The number of speakers install onto output 1 is limited the 4 ohm impedance limit there. So 2 8 ohm speakers can be installed on output 1 or 8 32 ohm speakers (SP12-F). The number and location of keypads is totally independant of the number and location of the speakers.

No, I would not. I recommend installing siren in hallways at locations whre it can be heard at all desired locations. One in every room is a bit overkill. If you mean two-way voice, only the ELK-M1TWI can be used for two way voice. Again, I would recommend these be placed in hallways at strategic locations. The central station operator can hear users quite a distance from each of these mics, so one in each room is not necessary.

Don't know about this one.

hey sandpiper, thanks for the quick response. Is there anyway or any method to expand the number of mic I can install?

It seems to me that multiple mics could be wired in parallel. It shouldn't hurt anything to try. This is a question for Elk Technical Support.

You can wire multiple mics in a single voice zone. It's in the docs that come with the two-way interface.

I have my temp sensors wired with Cat6. It works fine. I believe they are 4 wires. Two for power, and two for the signal. I left the other two pair dark.
