Elk M1G RS232 Capabilities

After two years I am finally getting around to installing my Elk M1G.

I have a question about the M1G's RS232 capabilities.  I purchased a couple Elk M1XSP units to use for serial interfaces.  I know that I can used these devices to send serial commands to lighting controller etc from the M1G but can I use the M1G to receive serial commands from other equipment?

Specifically, can I send a serial command to the M1G and have it simply pass the identical serial command to another device?

Can I send a serial command to the M1G and have an M1G activity triggered by that command?

The reason I'm looking into this is that I have a URC A/V Remote system that has RS232 capabilities.  My lighting is currently controlled by the A/V remote via RS232 to a Lutron RadioRa Chronos.  I would like to have my Chronos tied into my M1G also.  So I'm looking into the possibility of sending the serial command from my A/V remote to the M1G and having the M1G pass that command through to the Lutron Chronos.

In addition, I thought it would be useful if I could use the A/V remote to send serial commnands to the M1G to perform other tasks.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, with some constraints...  I don't have them off the top of my head, but the M1G is kinda limited in delimiters IIRC so if you need something specific it may or may not be compatible; also the receipt of commands is in no way dynamic.  Again, going from memory - I believe you need to look for the whole string you wish to match within your custom strings - so it's not going to parse out a volume setting for instance; but a couple simple ones like Arm/Disarm/Night or even Run Task "GoodNight" are probably doable.
