Elk M1KPNAV Questions

Does the Elk M1KPNAV touchscreen play any sounds or speak any voice commands?  Also, has anyone found a creative way to hide a speaker behind the keypad?

It doesn't look like there is room for a speaker, as mentioned in this thread.  I don't remember if it had sound, but I did record video of the unit in action, and BSR recorded video as well (which does seem to have basic sound).

I own one. All it has beeps from what I can tell no speaker per say. I mounted on a gang box with a blank panel and I am planning to install a 1" speaker in the box using the unused wire from the keypad.
I wish the screen a tad bigger. Or you could mount vertically like an ipod so it would cover the blank plate.

I don't know, DEL. Is most of the engineering coming from Ness, or from Elk? I always thought most was from the US, but Spanky may be just a savvy engineer.

Part of the issue...it's originally from Austrailia and their electrical is a different size than NA. ;)
That explains it. It is rebranded by Elk. I do recall seeing from another manufacturer site.

I think Spanky or Elk would need to answer that, but it could be a collaboration between the two companies of some sort...Ness doesn't offer a lot of the devices available here for the M1. For example,  Elk's outdoor units are Ness, not even rebranded. Ness offers 3 versions of the M1, basically an EZ8, what appears to be an EZ8 with limited expansion and the M1 itself.

Personally, I think there's a lot of sharing between the 2 companies, with Elk possibly being the lead, as the boards are silkscreened with their information, however I believe both companies are responsible for development for their respective markets and if something appears to be a seller, it's easier to modify it to get through UL in the US than reengineer the product. On second thought, it's funny that if you look up international distributors of Ness product it points directly to Elk, but not vice versa....hmm.

Any details?
All I was told they do know the KPNAV Keypad is on the small side and they are working on something larger style. World not give more info.
When I ordered the NAV I didn't look at the dims otherwise I would have had second thoughts.
My folks live with me after I saw the keypad I decided not to mount it as the main on the first floor. It's in the master bedroom.
I wonder how many people are using their iPod touch as a hardwired for power as a keypad running eKeypad mounted on the wall?

They used to have a bigger one, but it was ridiculous expensive. It seems to have disappeared from the catalogs.

The TS07...basically embedded Win CE running RM. Nice units, POE, etc. etc. Price was the factor that killed them, not to mention the flush mount, odd size, and proprietary nature... (market being I need X as a dedicated touchscreen for the alarm only). They could really be customized if you had RM and RM designer (later).
