Elk TS-07

Does anyone know if there are plans to update the TS-07 to Windows CE 6.0? I'm thinking about getting a couple more touchscreens, but I want something that's upgradeable. I suppose a small touchscreen Windows Vista box would be fine too. It would need to fit in the spot that I cut for the TS-07.

Thanks,
Stacy

Elk has evaluated moving to CE 6.0, but 6.0 slows down the screen operation. CE 5.0 will be available until 2018 according to Microsoft so Elk is staying with 5.0.

I'd like to make a feature request. It would be great to be able to use the TS07 to run more powerful software alongside ElkRMS.

A small, basic capacitive touch screen and a board capable of running XPe can be bought wholesale for under $100. All that is left is to decide how to package it and how much memory to include. Keeping a MSRP over $1000, there should be plenty of room to significantly upgrade the TS07 capabilities. I used to order military spec, dust/waterproof touchscreens that were much more powerful for similar MSRP prices. I don't know any good consumer vendors, but I imagine your partners can put something together.

An upgrade could even drive sales of the touchscreen for use on other platforms. I know there is a need for a capable touchscreen solution that is well marketed.

I agree that a more powerful device would be awesome. I'm doing a lot of work with Silverlight and WPF. These would be fantastic on a touchscreen. Silverlight Mobile would be so cool! I want to put two more screens in my house, but I think I'll wait until I can find something more powerful than the TS-07.

I'm still experimenting with code on the TS-07, but it's slow going.

You might investigate the Samsung Q1. It is a full PC and portable. Price is around $900.
