Elk zone issues

I do have the manuel but I do I tell the panel their are no resistors. I guess that's why by motion detectors dont seem to have power even with the panel on but I do get power to the keypad. Can someone help me or direct me how do I tell the panel that I have not used resistors?

As ALL the previous posters have told you, you need to change the zone type to either Normally Open or Normally Closed.

Quite frankly I think you're going about this wrong. Take a step back and familiarize yourself with the manual and how to configure things - you're in over your head right now. The Installation manual clearly tells you how to configure the zones, and on page 30 (of my version) it tells you the different zone types and the previous answers have already told you the area you need to go look up.

If your motions don't have power, that has nothing to do with M1 configuration; quite simply, they're hooked up wrong. They'll have power and flash their lights regardless if they're even hooked to a zone at all, and regardless of how that zone is configured.

I'm guessing with how you're going about this, have you eve properly enrolled all your accessories? What all do you have hooked to this thing so far?

And for Output 2, it can be configured for either Voltage or Speaker output depending on if you used a Speaker or a Siren. Sometimes it'll still need a resistor across the terminals to help with a buzz/hum coming from the speaker/siren or to clear a trouble.

I will review the manual again and to get more familiare with everything. I tried connecting everthing using the logic of the connections from my previous panel. So far I have:

3 motion detector (no power)
1 keypad the 2nd one should arrive soon
2 carbon monoxide detector ( both show to have power)
3 smoke alarms ( show to have power)
1 window connection
1 garage door
1 sump pump alarm
1 door sensor going to my keypad

PLEASE!! read the manual and do yourself a favor and investigate how your prior system was connected, assuming you took a picture, notes, labelled or both, but spend some of the requsite time with the manual(s).

I started hooking everyhing up again and was able to use all the steps to install the smoke detector. I'm doing 1 zone at a time and setting it on the keypad afterward. When I get to the motion detector I don't see it powering up.

I connected to wire to the +vaux & negative and the other 2 in zone 2 +&-. Did I miss something why no power

Could be LED's disabled, could be a power up stabilization period, could also be wrong pairs connected. Time would need to be spent looking at the unit and wiring in conjunction with a DMM before anyone could fathom a guess why it appears there's no power to them.

Double-check your wiring. The motions should show signs of life regardless of the panel's configuration. If not, your wiring is wrong. Double-check wiring at both ends. And try reading the manual and learning some basics - so far, based on your posts, you scare me! You really need to hire a pro.

It is a lot to take in. really is. But they are right. Once you get into the manual, most of it is there. Some things are inferred, or briefly mentioned (written for a pro) and can be confusing to the novice. When you have a problem, take a break, step away, take a breath, then come back and try to look at the bigger picture. Check all wiring and do some continuity and other tests to check off items that could be problem (like bad wiring, device, etc...)

:hesaid:

And you shouldn't rush it. Since you seem to be starting from scratch here with no relevant experience, you should've been working with this on the bench until you understood it well enough to start hooking up live sensors into it.

No, you may use a serial (RS-232) connection for RP.

OK i received the rs-232 converter to USB and trying to operate the PR system but no success. It tells me that is does not find the M1XEP. Should I be able to configure my system with the RS-232?

 Thanks, I needed that!

You really need to find a pro to help you.

If you are west of the Rockies, I'd be willing to travel.

If you are using a serial connection then you need to select Connect...Direct in Elk-RP. Not Connect...Network, that is if you have an M1XEP (Ethernet Interface).

As far as the whole motion detector thing, you probably should get yourself a cheap multimeter and measure if you are getting power on the terminals of the motion detector, should read 12ish Volts. If you are then your wiring is correct.
