ElkM1 Not responding to UPB Devices

I've installed an ELK sysetm in my home and am using UPB devices from Simply Automated and HAI. I'm having a problem with Commands sent from dimmers/switches being recognized in the rules of the ELK M1 System. I've/ set all the devices to report/transmit status but a large number of the devices are not detected by the ELK M1 when a Link is sent. Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject. I want to use the ELK's rules system to manage the lighting in the home.

Can you give us some examples of the rules?

Also, have you tried plugging a computer into the CIM right where it sits connected to the Elk and doing a network test? I had issues where my UPB was working great until I located the CIM in the final wiring closet.

The ELK M1 is not able to track device status changes when the device was activated by a Link. If you are try to trigger a rule based on link activation, then it's pretty simple, but you do have to keep in mind that ELK considers the Link a lighting device, starting at 193 (up to 256) for Link #1.

So if I understand your comment then UPB Device addresses 1 to 192 are for the ELK panel to send control Links and Addresses 193 to 254 are for receiving link data or sending out link commands. In this application we want to detect any of 3 different light switches (SA US11-40-W) then generate a link to turn on another outlet receptacle (SA URD-30-W). The rules that I have written are as follows:

WHENEVER Bath Master Lgt [21 (B5)] IS TURNED ON
THEN TURN Hot Water Recir [24 (B8)] ON, FADE RATE=0 FOR 10 MINS
WHENEVER Guest Bath Lgt [18 (B2)] IS TURNED ON
THEN TURN Hot Water Recir [24 (B8)] ON, FADE RATE=0 FOR 10 MINS
WHENEVER Kitchen Lgt [20 (B4)] IS TURNED ON
THEN TURN Hot Water Recir [24 (B8)] ON, FADE RATE=0 FOR 10 MINS

The goal is to turn on the recirculation hot water system for 10 minutes if any light switch is turned on in bathrooms or kitchen. I've also tried moving the light switches up by a 193 offset and that does not seem to work either. I have no problem sending commands to the fixtures but I don't seem to be able to capture an event and cause an action on a activate link from these devices.

We have the wall switches rockers set to transmit as well. The Log in the UPStart software clearly shows the events being sent but the ELK does not seem to act on them.

ELK devices 1-192 are for directly addressing the light switch. 193-256 is for Links (Scenes). So if you turned on status reporting, and turn a switch on locally, then the M1 should be able to track it (assuming you are using the addresses mentioned in your rules).

When you say you have no problem sending commands, are you talking about UPStart, or the ELK M1? If you are talking about UPStart, then we need to start troubleshooting your PIM/XSP connectivity. I'm assuming you have entered the correct UPB network ID in the 'UPB Lighting Network Addr' text box, in the ELKRP Globals configuration screen (G29-G42 (Special) tab)?

I have rules which on a door open turning lights on and they work fine sending out UPB activate links. The problem is that when a wall switch state is changed the ELK does not seem to see it. I'm using the new PIM-E device which ties directly to the ELK 485 network. Since the ELK has no problem turning lights on. The problem appears to be that it is not seeing the events from the switches. I know the events are occurring I can see them in the LOG on UPStart. Maybe I should talk to Pulseworx, based on what you are saying it looks like I'm not doing anything wrong.

In thinking through the issue, in looking at the facts that the ELK would send commands fine but have problems receiving. I checked the sensitivity setting and it was set to high which was causing noise issues with the PIM-E. Setting the Sensitivity on the PIM-E to Low corrected the issue. The system is now responding as expected.

Hmm, is this sensitivity feature a Gen2 feature or PIM-E specific? This is the first time I have heard about such feature. Glad you got it resolved tho!
