External access to the Omni IIe

I upgraded my Omni IIe’s chip to 3.2b. Everything on my system seems to work fine except that I can’t seem to access the controller board through my wireless network now. I use snaplink. My network consist of a DSL modem (Qwest Actiontec PK5000) which is also my wireless router. Connected to my Omni IIe is a netgear wge101 wireless bridge. I have reset the bridge but still can’t seem to get it to work. The port on the board seems to be working but I am not sure if there is a way to tell. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do? At this point I am just trying to access it from within my home network not from the outside, that will be my next step. I did have it working (within my home network) before I upgraded the chip.

Thanks

Can you talk to the controller when you connect directly to it with your ethernet cable?

I haven't tried it. Do I just plug in an ethernet cable into the board (where the one is that is connected to the bridge) and then connect the other end to my laptop? I am assuming that at this point I should just try to ping the board is that correct?

Thanks

Yes-connect an ethernet cable from the omni board directly to your laptop. Launch PC access, configure the app if it is your first time using, and connect via "network" to the controller. You could also ping the board, but I do not know if it will respond.

Thanks, is PC access just a pc/windows app if not where do I get it.

This is a windows only app, I am a mac guy so I have it loaded on a parallels install. You can find the software on http://www.automatedoutlet.com/

Thanks I will give it a try. I am assuming that it will tell me how to communicate through the app (like do I ping or does it just listen).

Thanks again, if I have other question I will let you know. I will try it this evening

Just make sure the IP address on the controller is the same as the Ip address configured in Snaplink. You can check it from your keypad.

I thought I would be able to down load pc access but it will take about a week to get it so I am wondering if there is anything else that will allow me to talk to the board directly.
Thanks

You could program with a keypad. If you do not have the Omni manual, then I would highly suggest you download a copy. I like Home Controls as they have a lot of manuals listed with each product.

maco,

First, verify the IP address, port number, and encryption key in the controller by using the console. These are found under 9=SETUP | 6=MISC. Make sure these match the settings in Snap-Link. You can also go to a command prompt on any PC on your network and try to "ping" the IP address of the controller. At the command prompt, type "PING 192.168.1.100" using the correct IP address for your controller in place of the "192.168.1.100". You also need to insure that the PCs on your network and the controller are on the same subnet. They should all have similar looking addresses like "192.168.1.x".
