External sounder recommendation for Ademco Vista-10se

My dad's house has an Ademco Vista-10se panel, and does not have an outside sounder. He has one inside sounder; ADT RX7C (12v, 150mz).

He wants me to add an external sounder for him, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. It looks like there can't be more than 600ma combined draw from both the alarm output and the aux power output, so I would assume that I have 450ma to work with.

As far as hookup, do I simply connect the sounder to Alarm Outputs 3 and 4 on the panel? Since it already has an internal sounder, do I need to do any additional programming?

Double check yourself on the ratings of the panel. You have standby and alarm current limits. There are different limits for a burg only panel and a fire/burg.

I am assuming from the question we can go the non UL route.
The total current draw from the alarm output terminals cannot exceed 2 amps. The back-up battery must be installed since the current is supplied by the battery.

You can use a relay triggered by the bell output to add most any siren or combination you wish.
The addition of an external power supply to drive them is recommended, but if you have a large enough back-up battery,
you can use the relay and power directly off of the battery.

Just know this method has its own risks.

Why would you stick with 600mA max - does it need to be UL rated?

For non-UL installations, p. 49 states outpt total cannot exceed 2 amps. Why would the UL limit this? If you figure that out, you can probably go up to 2 amps.

You're not supposed to use an external siren ('must be mounted indoors'), if you want to stay with a UL-rated system, anyway.

I bet that Ademco 719 2-Channel Siren would do the trick.

Yes, some programming would be required, though it looks very easy - p. 50.

I guess it all depends on how comfortable you feel about it.

For this programming, the pro would probably charge $80-120, if he's familiar with the system. The pro I've used on my current system charges $80 to roll the truck.

I suggest you get some quotes, for the hardware + installation + programming, and for just programming. Then, install yourself, and try to program. If you screw it up, installer comes out to re-program.
