F4 key doesn't turn off my OUTPUT

Hi folks,

I need some help again :).

I added a rule
WHENEVER F4 KEY ACTIVATES
THEN TURN OFF OUTPUT 12

something like that. So I sent the rule to the system. The other existing rule I have turns OUTPUT 12 to ON. Let's assume that OUTPUT 12 is on now. When I press F4 on my keypad, it doesn't turn it OFF. I waited for 3 minutes, still nothing happened.

In order for me to turn it OFF, I have to either wait for the rule to finish or I create a rule temporarily.

WHENEVER TIME is 8:30 PM
THEN TURN OFF OUTPUT12.

What am I missing? I really need that F4 key to work. I will be using it to turn off my lawn sprinker.

Thanks.

Neil

Is F4 set for double press??? Probably not but I thought I would mention it just in case

Here is what I found out. F4 is disabled. There are so many choices in the dropdown. Should I choose 30 - Key On/Off? Thanks.

I also saw AUTOMATION TASK as one of the dropdowns. I went then to AUTOMATION TASK but don't know what to do. Do have any docs about how to create an automation task?

Thanks!

I got it working using TASK 2001 on Keypad and Rules!!! :) Rule I have is Toggle output 12 :)

Thank you so much Frederick!!!

You need to check "single press" or press F4 twice in order for it to work.

(Oh, and don't check "single press" for fire, medical, and police zones. I set those buttons to "disabled" and I program the rules to execute whenever the function key has been pressed.

What I mean is you can set any of the keypad's function to "disabled," and program the rules something like this:

Whenever F1 key is activated in Keypad 01
Then toggle light A1

So even if you set the event to disabled for the F1 key, the rule will still be triggered whenever the F1 key is pressed.

I just tried it here with press F3 to turn on Output 12 and press F4 to turn off Ouput 12 and it works OK.

Make sure you do not have any other Rules overriding the F4 key press like when Output 12 turns off, some other Rule turns it back on.

I'm sorry, I don't see the difference. Seems to me that configuring it in RP is exactly the same as creating a rule, except for many people, eating rule space is not a good thing. In your example, you say its not good to configure say Fire as a single keypress. I agree with that, it should be a double, or additional step as to not trigger false alarm by kids/guests, etc. But... If you simply create a rule that does the same thing you are defeating the purpose. Unless your rule does something else or requires another activity before it engages. But a rule that says WHENEVER F4 is pressed, then dial Fire, you are doing the same thing.

So what am I missing?

This was why I asked for an elaboration. I would rather trust a double F key press to summon the police in a panic than a rule that could get munched in programming.
