fanboys rejoice, there really is an ipad

.. battery life how could you use anything else as a HA touch panel?
What is the battery life projected as? How many home automation packages run on Apples OS?
Seriously Rupp? Check out the front page, has an article (little outdated, so there is more now) which lists all the HA apps for the iphone ;) Battery life is supposedly around 10 hours, or 1 month standby.
I was talking about native Apple apps that run on Apple not client/server type apps. Of course we know that most all of the major HA apps have touch screen apps.

Personally not an apple person. A long time ago played with Lisa and first Macs though.

Lately when I watch movies (actually few years now) look at laptops being used in movies and whether they are apple or wintel style.

I wonder whether the name chosen was a "gaff" with intent for promotion of said product.

The Archos 9 seems to be the main competitor. It runs Windows 7 and allows the use of USB devices as well. It has a webcam as well as the ability to load any software that you want and not from the apple store. It seems they included many of the extras the pad needed to include.

I do think the maxipad jokes will end soon, but I think it is too close to the iPod name and will cause confusion long term. That alone should have prevented Apple from using the name IMHO. iSlate or something else would have been much better from a device recognition stand point. Heck, if a person mumbles or you don't clearly hear a person, you might think they said iPod when they said iPad and vice versa.

I still remember playing around with my Panasonic CF-01. You could drop this little PC and it would bounce like a rubber ball.

Here is a quote that is floating around the internet concerning the iPad. I think it pretty well sums up a lot of people's feelings on the subject. I'm not sure who the original author was.

Just yesterday I was looking at my iPhone thinking "Hmmm, I wish this thing didn't fit in my pocket." Then I looked over to my netbook and couldn't help but feel it would benefit from losing the keyboard and being made of 50% glass. Finally apple gives me what I wish.

I'm sure a better analogy / quote will surface. You can't use the iPad as a phone, or can you?

i wonder if you wil be able to run google voice or other voip app on it (apple can't argue it might confuse the user by changing the ui since the ipad is not a phone). with the $30 data plan, you've got yourself a low monthly fee VOIP cellphone. now, to find a holster big enough hehe

Just checked - it DOES have a mic, so maybe you could use it as a VOIP phone..
