I'm wondering how widespread this technology is, do other Cocooners have similar setups?
I had our local telecom company install a fiber optic link into my house last week. It's a new setup offered by BellAliant here in eastern Canada, they call it FiberOP. They pulled a terminated cable from the pole underground into my wiring closet. There's a pile of new kit in there now. They supplied a UPS, a fiberoptic transceiver, a wireless router and a slack box for the excess fiber optic cable.
I went with the IPTV setup as well as the internet. Previously I was getting 1- 3MBPS down and .5MBPS up on the DSL link and now I'm getting 30MBPS down and 12 up.
Apparently they don't have the phone system approved for use on the Fiber yet, I guess it has something to do with power outages and 911 availability.
So is this common?
