Fire\CO Alarm

I have just installed a new First Alert SC7010BV and am having problems with the control panel showing "Smoke Detector TRBL".  I tried to bypass and it didn't clear the message, then I tried to restore and it is still displaying and "Smoke Detector BYPASS".  I am using an OMNI Pro II with 20A04-50 3.15.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome.

That smoke detector isn't designed to connect to a panel like the Omni Pro II. You need to use 12V smoke alarms designed for panels. There are plenty of them out there but usually not combination alarms like this one. This smoke alarm is designed to connect to other 120V interconnected alarms as required by local codes. Are you adding this panel to your house or is this a new built house in progress?

The 120V smoke alarms are designed to save your life if there is a fire. A panel, like the Omni, is designed to notify the fire department when you are not home. The two types of smoke alarms are designed differently for different reasons and operate separately.

Thanks for the welcome and reply.

I am adding the alarm to my existing setup.  I had it installed with my home 7 years ago.  I am selling my home and the buyers want a Fire/CO alarm installed.  I just upgraded the chip due to problems I had with removing the old chip.

If the inspector flagged missing 120V smokes and CO detectors, they HAVE to be 120V. These are required by code. If the owners just want this, just add a battery smoke/CO.  If the owners are requiring a Omni connected smoke, it HAS to be a 12V version designed to connect to a panel.

Thanks for the information.  Can you tell me what make\models will work with the omni and where they can be purchased.  I am on a time line and would like to knock out this win as soon as possible.

Any of the vendors here carry them ASIHome, Home Controls, Automated Outlet, Smarthome, or Amazon.

Here are ones from System Sensor, which is a good company. Others are good as well.
Here is just an example. http://www.homecontrols.com/Firewolf-Advanced-Photoelectric-Smoke-Heat-Detector-4-Wire-NPFW4H

Get a 4-wire sensor.

You SHOULD get an End-or-Line relay as well if you don't already have connected smoke alarms on the Omni. (Some sensors have this built-in.) Then you should use "firewire" to wire these. Its a red colored cord.

So I ordered an Interlogix 541NBXT and will install a separate CO detector.  An additional question; how do I shut off the keypads.  I guess the smoke detector error is causing the keypad to remain lighted.  The bright blue light in the bed room keeping is disturbing my wife.

Thanks for all your help!

Yes, for a panel you usually need a separate device for fire and CO. It will take two zones to monitor.

Reprogram any fire zone you set to be an "Auxiliary" until you get your smoke alarm sensor. Pressing a * should clear it, otherwise try an 8 then 3. This will clear it unless you still have zones set to fire.

The console keypad backlighting can be on, timed, or off.

To go into console setup mode, press the 4 and the up-arrow and hold them for a second.
Press the down-arrow for the next setting.
Keypad backlighting can be 0 (off), 1 (1), or 2 (timed)
Press the 4 and the up-arrow and hold them for a second to get out of setup.
