First UPB Strangeness

For 8 months I have been happy with the UPB install. But today something strange is going on. I have a play room with 2 240s controlling two sets of lights. The switches each activate the playroom link so both come on from either switch. This has worked very well. So today wife tells me that the switches don't work any more. A bad sign.

Sure enough a single tap from either switch won't turn the lights on. Double tap works to turn them on and off. Single bottom tap turns them off. When I single tap to turn them on I hear the buzz, I see the activate event in UPStart, I see the switches indicate they are on (turned yellow) in UPStart but getting status says they are at 0%. They are configured to snap to 80% on single tap like most of the switches in the house.

What the heck is going on? I haven't played with UPB in months.

you might make sure they are not also configured to turn on to the previous light level. first thing to try would be to turn them on, then hold down the switch to fade them up and see if that works. if it does, turn it back off and on with a single tap and see if it goes to that light level you just set.

I figured it out. Operator error. *Somehow* the switch got programmed to have the link turn the lights on to 0%! My upstart file said the light was being set to 80%. Don't know how that happened! Easy fix.

With children around it is possible that the unit was put into manual programming mode. I can't remember the pattern to do that but that may explain how the intenstity was changed to 0%. You might try to disable that feature in the options tab uncheck the enable ADD/DELETE transmit link box.

That is one of the differences in the new SW-7 offered by Web Mountain. Manual programming is no longer available and that box choice has been removed from their updated UpStart.

Has anyone ever used the manual programming?

No, and I'm a certified Pulseworx dealer.

Yes, I have heard of it and have used it to walk the home with the owner to set scenes to their exact desire. This is a feature in PCS switches that worked well with their X10 switches, before there was UPB. When I first program the home (in UPStart) I set the dim settings for each scene to a general setting (dim, medium, bright)
Then with the owner and I walk the home and say something like: Here is the Party scene. Make any changes you want. (Change brightnesses to paint a visual picture) The owner tries various settings on multiple switches. Once the owner is happy, I press the "Party Scene" button 7 times. All the devices in that scene flash once and all the devices have reprogrammed to the new scene.

The downside to this is that the programming in UPstart has to be updated to the new settings in the switches. This has to be done in UPStart, one switch at a time. This can take some time when there are 80 switches. I once asked for a "Yes to all" feature but I guess not enough installers use this feature.

I don't know if Gen 11 devices have this feature.
