Getting M1 to report which zones are violated when it dials you?

Can not seem to find and voice messages that will tell you which zone or zones cause the alarm to go off. is there a way to facilitate this or is there a message that does it and I missed it?

I believe that you have to write a rule that voices a message based on which zone was violated. If you want it to call you on the phone and voice which zone was violated then you would need to write one rule per zone.

Yes but I think that you you have to set up a separate email for each zone specifying that particular zone in the content of it's text. I wish that you could have the name of the zone as a variable that is passed to the email or text or communicator dialer.

This isn't done in the XEP, its done on a PC.   This gives you total control over what is sent by processing the XEP's input.  For example, when the system isn't armed or armed stay, motion sensor violations are not sent.

Email and text messages are set up using elkrp2 in the xep setup screen.

Let me clarify, again.  I'm not using the XEP to send emails, there's not flexibility using just the XEP.  A script on the PC connects to the XEP and monitors the log stream.  The script determines which events are interesting and sends an email-to-text message to my phone.

I don't know if the OP is a programmer. Is this a canned script that runs in windows of does it require some sort of application front end?

Hi Guys....thanks for your input. Probably not wanting to get into scripts if I can avoid it. 
 
I am surprised actually ELK do provide a what was the event that cause the alarm to happen and report that in the phone message. In voices I see a {Insert Condition} as an available annunciation but I can not see to get it to do anything? A simple Zone XX or whatever you program into the zone's voice is violated would be fine. 
 
I would send also a separate email message simply saying "House is in Alarm"........probably what I will send that same voice message by the looks of it on alarm.
 
I suppose once the M1 has called advising an alarm condition you can hang up (###) and call the system back, and integrate "Zone Status".......just become a bit cumbersome.

The Elk DOES do this, but not in a completely reliable fashion.
 
I will go and look at how some of my zones are configured but I have my voice dial programmed to say something like:
 
Burglar
Alarm
Zone
 
And when certain zones are tripped, it will say the zone name after (as programmed in for the voice command).  It doesn't work for all zones though as sometimes it just stops speaking after "Zone".  I'm not sure if it works for the zones where I have the "Chime" turned on or what the differentiating factor is (or maybe sometimes it forgets what zone tripped the alarm).  At the end of the day though, it IS possible to have the Elk dynamically insert the zone name in a voice rule.

One other follow-up - I agree with the earlier poster's comment about using a PC on the front end to enhance what is sent by the Elk.  I use Elve (A great tool which is now free) to send email alerts (and to do my voice alerts in the house as the Elk text to speech is so bad).  With Elve, there is absolutely no limit to what you can do and it is very easy to setup.
