Good looking home automation software

Hi, is there any good looking software for X10? I like the GIRA interface for KNX, but all the X10 software I found was like we live in the early 90's.

J9 look like just what I needed! Thanks! The only cons is that it offers just a Windows Mobile Client. If I have a Linux, Android or the new iPad, I can't use it. A web client is all I need, but it seems no one offer a really good web solution...

You might want to dig a little deeper in to the J9 documentation. It does have a web server and supports web based clients. Also, the touchscreen Lite client is suppose to run on Linux under Mono.

Another option is Cinemar's MainLobby

HomeSeer has a Android plugin as well as an iPhone/iTouch/iPad interfaces.

It does support Linux and iStuff and has a web server, as has been mentioned.

Ahem. I think there's a bit of an uphill trek between "web server" and "Gira interface".

J9 has an iPhone/iTouch Interface, will this run on the iPad?

I tough J9 is free, but it seems it it will be commercial software once the 1.0 version is released. Is there anything close to it, that is free? I'm just curious.

Premise is free and supports X10 (and other lighting technologies). It offers a user-interface (UI) suitable for any device with a web-browser (i.e iPhone) using the revised MiniBrowser module. The upside is that the UI is automatically generated based on the devices you put into your "Premise Home". The downside is that the UI's appearance is spartan compared to Gira.

Sounds OK. I don't care about the interface outlook if I have tools to make my own. What I'm worry about is that Premise seems no longer supported. The last version is from 2006 and the official support forums are "READ-ONLY for archival purposes".

I would like to see a good OPEN SOURCE project, that I can rely on. I'm developing a custom controller and would like to find a good open source interface for it. Then I could support it, by writing a driver for my controller.

I know about OpenRemote, but they are just at the begging. Is there anything OpenSource/Free that is good and supported?

MisterHouse is an open-source HA application, written in Perl, that has been around for several years. Its user-community shares its expertise via a mailing list (also visible in Nabble).

FWIW, I used MH for a year before I switched to Premise.

It is my understanding that Premise IS open source now. When Motorola decided to stop supporting it, they were kind enough to make it open source. So the Premise community is now building on it. I'm sure having another experienced programmer helping would benefit everyone.

Correction - I guess I misunderstood the situation. Seems that Premise is released to the public without cost, but it isn't really open source. IE you cannot modify the source code.

Sorry about that. What can you expect from a CQC user? :)
