Google Chrome

Beta version downloaded and installed with minimal hassle. FWIW, Cocoontech.com loads and displays properly.

Can't comment on its engine yet but the UI is very clean. I may have missed a configuration step, but Chrome BETA doesn't support ActiveX plugins. This is a hurdle for the HA world where many IP cameras use ActiveX objects to render a UI. I guess if Chrome gains market share, camera vendors may support it directly. The availability of Chrome may not bode well for Firefox.

FWIW, I currently use Maxthon (based on the IE engine) and it provides many UI enhancements not found in IE nor Chrome.

ADDENDUM
Can't find a way to put it full-screen mode so that limits its usefulness for HA programs with web-based UIs.

Here's a link everyone: http://www.google.com/chrome

My goodness! Google Chrome looked very nice!!!

I like how Google takes advantage of the Aero user interface!

If there's one thing that Google can improve, is make the inactive tabs 50% transparent! Okay, I'm an "Aero"aholic, but that's no big deal. :)

Update: Google Chrome remembered my username and password for this website. It does have a spell checker.

Hmm... A violation of trust...

Despite the looks, speed, and simplicity of Google Chrome, I don't think I'll trust Google with my data I have in my hard drive.

Could there be a possibility to block certain ports in order to prevent Google Chrome to phone home Google servers? I don't want to violate end-user license agreement...

Glad I'm not the only one who distrusts Google... They'll give you all the free tools in the world - and with everything, they learn more about you... They have your e-mail (which you can't delete - gmail) - everyone you talk to or who calls you (grandcentral), pictures of the places you've been and the people you were there with (picasa), every file on your PC (their little search utility) and every web-site you ever visited, what you did there, how long you were there, etc (google toolbar) - and this is just one more...

I'm definitely no conspiracy theorist or anything like that - and I'm not about to lose sleep over it - but I'm in no hurry to install one more google app on my PC (the only one I can't live without is Picasa). I definitely have that little voice in the back of my head saying something just isn't right about them...

On a side note, when I first heard about Google's browser, I blindly searched for Google and Browser and installed Web Accellerator without paying attention then it rebooted my PC. I noticed afterwards that CT's web-site couldn't keep me logged in and kept giving me errors and my browser and explorer kept locking up. I disabled the add-on in explorer expecting it to get better, and it didn't - then I realized there was another app in my system tray. I had to uninstall it all then reboot before my PC was back to normal. Hopefully none of that "helpful technology" made it into the browser. Unfortunately, since I manage an IT Dept. that includes a web-development shop as well, I have to play with all browsers, so I'll be checking it out either way - just not on my home PC.

and they'll be able to recognize those people with picasa's new face recognition auto tagging feature - http://photo.blorge.com/2008/09/02/newest-...tagging-options

you forgot a list of everything you bought and your credit card number (checkout), your personal thoughts (blogger), who visits your website (analytics), your social security number - needed for payouts (adsense), your portfolio (finance), where you're going to and coming from (maps), your tastes in video (youtube), your interests (groups and reader)
