HA Starter

Hi all, I’m looking to expand my home automation system from simply a distributed audio system to much more. Currently I have the HAI Hi-Fi audio system installed. We are planning a rather extensive remodel/add-on this summer, and I figured this would be a good time to expand. I know there are millions of options out there, and have been researching for quite some time. My budget is limited, therefore I would like this to be a DIY project.

SO, what I would like to do is bounce a few ideas off the experts here. Here is what I want to have at the end of the day:

Audio: Distributed audio. I like what I have now with the HAI system. It is distributed to 4 zones and I can control it at each zone with the module in that zone. I would like to add the ability to control each zone from a central location..preferably an iPad. Someday I would like to maybe upgrade to Russound.

HVAC: would like to control the HVAC from a central location (again…iPad). I am leaning towards the OmniStat2 thermostat.
Security: I want a limited security system in the house, including 4 door sensors (looking at HAI wireless, drilled hidden in sensors) and 3 motion detectors (also looking at HAI wireless, pet friendly devices) I would like to monitor it from the iPad also. I plan on putting in two of the HAI keypads, one at the front door, one in the bed room.

Lighting: I don’t really want anything too fancy on the lighting, it’s mostly a cost issue with me. I have over 40 light switches throughout the home and cant afford to put each one on an HAI UPB switch at $50 a pop. I would like to be able to turn on a set of lights when I come home, have certain lights come on when the smoke or Security alarm trips, and have lights come on randomly when I am on vacation.

No pool, or irrigation, etc. Pretty simple really.

I am leaning towards the HAI Omnipro II for starters, but would like opinions from ya’ll on this idea….i am totally open to any and all ideas on where to go from here…
