HAI Omnistat/2 has a mind of its own!

Hi

My Omnistat/2 thermostat seems to be possesed! atleast once a week (usually around saturday or sunday) all the temp settings gets messed up!

I called up HAI support a few months ago and the rep walked me through disabling any automated temp programming which I did. And my dealer access software also has no automation set up for the thermostat.
Usually the thermostat would change from the usual 22.5C heat point to around 9 or 10C once a week on its own.

Today however after adjusting the temp back this morning and leaving home for the day, I came back and the inside temp was at 30C !! somehow the heat and cold setpoints were at 22.5 H and 24.5C cold. so I am not sure why the heating system kept working to bring up the inside temp to 30C!

Any help to why this is happening or how to fix it would be appreciated. Perhaps there is a factory firmware flash tool for this??

Thanks in advance.

Are you using a common wire? Its possible your stat's current draw is just on the edge, and an occasional power sag is resetting it, or at least messing it up. If you can add a common or wire it if its there, that will at least rule that out.

I find that happens sometimes I try to alter the settings using programmatic control from my panel. Since my panel changes are usually short-term, I've found using the schedule feature ensures sanity returns if necessary. I realize this flies in the face of the "either let the thermostat control everything, or the panel control everything", but neither are sufficient.

Chris D.

edit: the thermostat is an RC-1000, firmware 1.03D.

After careful consideration, I chose the Omnistat/2 (RC-2000) and I'm awaiting its arrival. Now I learn it has a bug. Phooey!

Fortunately, I plan to use it the same way as Chris, namely the thermostat will operate independently of the HA system. I just want visibility and, occasionally, control over its settings (i.e. increase/decrease setpoint). Nonetheless, it is disconcerting to hear about the scrambled temperature settings ...

hooman00,
It sounds like you have a defective unit (bad memory). I would advise that you contact technical support and get a replacement. Please reference this response when contacting technical support to help facilitate the call.

Chris,
Your situation seems to be a little bit different since it seems like your problem originates from the panel. Can you please provide more detail such as:
Frequency you see this.
Fahrenheit or Celsius?
How many degrees does it jump.
Any specific examples?

Hey guys, I too am having issues with my Omnistat II RC-1000.

I've had it installed for about a month and about a week or 2 ago started noticing issues. It started with the unit not switching on the air handler, I woudl have to set it to off then back to cool or set the air handle to on then back to auto. A little after that I decided to try to go in and do a factory reset, to my surprise I couldn't get into the setup menu, when trying to get in it would just kick me back out to the detail screen after clicking on setup. I've called HAI and they suggest I exchange the unit. I will be exchanging it tomorrow...

This makes me very concerned, are there a lot of issues with these units?

PS: I haven't connected the thermostat to the controller yet, so it's independent also today it turned on the compressor and didn't turn on the handler, nearly froze the unit!

How long did the RA process take with HAI? I just swapped mine out at my distributor and I swear the circuit board looked like it was soldered by a 5 year old. Excessive amounts of residue all over, looks like excess flux? Anyway I popped the unit in and worked fine for 5 minutes then started going hay wire. I verified all the voltages and had a licensed HVAC contractor come out and re-verify the voltages, all is fine.

Hooman, do you mind taking a voltage readout of your common and rh/rc wire for me? I really have no idea what is going on

I had a similar issue in an install. I think some heaters when they turn on blink or brown out the power to the thermostat. That constant voltage you need to apply to it is not constant and then tends to reset the temps. Try a power supply on it it fixed my troubled install.
