I've got a deep fried turkey on the menu. Doing at least two birds today. Been a habit going back nearly 20 years. Still scares the hell out of me having that huge tub of oil going...
Yup; here staying away and out of the kitchen. Standard stuff cooked and planned by sister / wife. Dining room table was all set up yesterday and wife has been making appetizers since last night (still this morning). Me just tinkering in the garage and staying out of the way.
We are keeping it simple and going out to a restaurant. Our hot water tank began to leak two days ago and we have no hot water in the house... We our thankful that the tank is still under warranty. It's a five year old Bradford White power direct vent unit. Replacement tank is arriving tomorrow morning. But still locating a plumber for the installation.
I could barely waddle to the keyboard this evening. I survived using the fryer (with no pyrotechnic incidents) and did a 19lb bird in 45 minutes. Ab-so-lute-ly deeelicious!
Hmm, Bradford direct power? Which model? Ours went in mid-2013... Any signs to watch for?
We have this tank. The PDX2-75T6FBN Power Direct Vent, 75 gal. We use the 'side taps' on the tank for radiant floor heating for our patio room (via a flat plate heat exchanger). Only lasted less than five years on a six year warranty.
Tuesday morning noticed no hot water. Discovered water running out of the top 'jacket' of the tank around the supply lines. Fairly good stream. Local Bradford White dealer said that weld on the top of the tank probably broke. Even though it's under warranty, there was a major update of DHW heaters in 2015 due to a federal mandate. So I needed pay a $150 upgrade charge for the newer (higher efficiency) unit. The dealer also needed to see the leak before ordering a replacement.. All of this delayed the delivery of the replacement until tomorrow. And the presence of the extra connections for the radiant heating application 'scared' the tech that looked at the leak. So they declined to bid the installation. Need to locate a plumber. The plumber that did the original installation isn't available. It does look a bit scary due to the FP HX, two circulators for the radiant loop, and a circulator for an ''nstant HW' loop to the master bath. Plus the tank has a thermostatic mixing valve on top. This allows me to run the tank at 140 degrees F. Better for the radiant heating and it helps to kill things like legionella (sp?) in the water.
A bit of over-engineered DHW heater by some standards... I even had the installer add capped T's into a few of the lines so that could someday add temp sensors to keep an eye on the radiant loop and the tank temp itself.
Well Bill's mention of frying a turkey had me bring it up yesterday while feasting (feeding).
The women ignored the vote. Guys (not all of them) voted 4:1 to fry a turkey next year. Only senior members of the family voted. Kids (well now around 30 years old) did not (they are not at Thanksgiving day management level yet).
It was nice pleasant day; now 4 great grandchildren - all boys- non stop - all under 6 - well until one hit the fireplace moving at around 5 mph in the den. 3 referred to the 8 month old as "the baby" - well while walking / and running with the rest of the clan.
