I just wanted to post my satisfaction with Z-wave. My implementation is pretty low-impact, in comparison with some of what I've read on here. So far, I've added a Vera 2 controller, two CA8900 thermostats, and two dimmers. I have several dimmers & switches ready to install, as well as a Kwikset deadbolt. All of the switches in my condo will be either Monster Z-wave or a manual Leviton match. I'm actually looking for just two more Monster IWD600S dimmers & then I'll have all the switches I'll need.
I'm pleased with how everything just works. Coming from X10, there was way too much fiddling, ensuring that no signals were soaked up by appliances, tying phases together, staying within range for RF... Z-wave has been great thusfar. The switch quality is much better (I'm glad I went with Monster/Leviton rather than Intermatic or something else), and the only thing I've fallen short on is my ability to code in Luup.
I'm using iVera 1.06 on an iPod Touch, which is pretty awesome and is relatively well-supported. I'm looking forward to getting my entire implementation done. Eventually I might include my garage door and possibly my alarm system.
