Has CQC left the DIY market?

They don't sell it anymore. Are you sure that's not from some cached page or something? Anyway, it's only sold directly via us these days.

No I am sure it was not a cached page... I talked to Martin in chat he was going to look into why it was still there...

You simply don't understand the biz model in place. I know because I've been there, reselling CQC. The fact is that as an integrator I do not get the license at the DIY price. Instead, the professionals purchase the license at a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH steeper price and then can resell with or without a mark up. Since I know for an absolute fact that potential clients have (thus do) look at the CQC website when receiving their estimate, the removal of the DIY license (which contractually can NOT be worked on by an integration partner) was necessary. That's why the DIY price is gone. As stated, you can contact Dean via email and get the ball rolling.

I think I was referring to an older business model, I did not realize integrators paid a higher price for the license. The last time I looked at the charmed quark website it listed a DIY license for a few hundred(I don't remember exactly, but I think it was around $500), and a fully integrated solution(created by an integrator) for $1-2000. It seemed at the time that the installer was getting a comparable price as the "professionally integrated" price was only 2-3X the DIY price and obviously included a lot of labor and IP.

Thank you Dean for your investment in the DIY community and I appreciate your efforts to navigate such a tricky business model.

Since you don't sell it anymore I removed the price, but this sounds like a cool combination. A combo package with a security controller like Elk or HAI would be a killer way to get some visibility and could easily become the most talked about package for newbies. Sad that it was discontinued, but I'm surprised it isn't more common to sell hardware/software packages.

I noticed that older CQC forum posts have been deleted, no longer a 'searchable' resource - nothing there pre-11/09.

Edit - google found some older threads in the CQC forum, e.g. Wuench's Blue Glass Theme thread (love that). Secret website?

????

Are you talking about here or on the CQC website? I just searched the CQC site and everything looks normal. For example, I searched for the term "ct600" and came up with lots of threads including one that was last updated on 11/6/2006.

hmmm - I guess you can search older posts, but the forum doesn't show old threads

For example, I see in the CQC Support forum, there are 3,361 threads, but I can't see the list older than Nov. There are only 5 pages of threads.

Maybe I just never noticed - most of my reading at CQC has been via searches.

Thanks, Brian.

What option do you have selected at the bottom of the CQC Forum page under "Display Options"?

I suspect it might be From the 'Last Month'. You should be able to change the time frame from to be anything from as short as 'Last Day' to 'Beginning' (which should show all the threads).
