High Temp Temp Sensors for Elk

Hello all,

Are there any options, either directly or indirectly, for temperature sensors that can measure up to 300 degrees F and which can be read by the Elk M1? Thanks.

I had a multimeter with a temp sensor probe on it. It also had a serial port, and would output the value of whatever you were monitoring once per second. I don't have it anymore, so I can't get you the model number. It was made by Metex though.

The problem is, I don't think you can send data from the serial port to something that will evaluate it. You would have to plug it into a separate machine, have the machine parse the values, and then send a message to the ELK that the temp was over or under the limit.

What are you monitoring? Solar hot water collectors?

That's very perceptive. :) Actually, these are solar hot air collectors. I'll also be building solar water collectors in a little while.

A simple snap switch will turn on a blower at 110 F and off at 90 F, but I also need temp control inside the house. So if it is sunny and 70 F outside we really don't want to be pumping hot air inside.

I don't necessarily need the sensor inside the collector, but I like to gather that kind of data. But for the blower, I do need a way to turn that on and off. I suppose that could be as simple as an X10 appliance module. When the inside temp is below 75 F, turn the blower on. If the snap switch has closed (inside is > 110 F), it will turn on. If not, it won't. Unless I am missing something...
