Im purchasing a condo and I want to implement some home automation.

Im looking to control lighting, thermostat, blinds, entertainment system.

I was drawn to insteon at first, but after some bad reviews Im having second thoughts.

Its 950 sq ft total, basically 3 rooms and 2 baths.

Im not sure which way to look, or even where to start.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

To be honest Im not even sure... Im looking to do it right... I don't want to have to do it 3 times which ultimately would cost me more.. So the budget is a factor but not a huge one.

The first thing you need to do is pick a platform. UPB, z-wave, Insteon, etc. These are good for do-it yourself. There are other options, like Control-4 that require professional installation.

Personally, I would look at z-wave. It has a strong following, lots of available products and is easy to use. Check out Mi Casa Verde as a primary controller. It uses RF, so as opposed to power line, and in my experience is very reliable.

I'd be inclined to agree with the previous poster - Z-Wave is available for everything. Look through the past announcements - I think there was one for Z-Wave controlled blinds; thermostats and lighting are easy - just need to get a feel for which brand style you like the best.

thanks for your help.. What do you guys think of Radio Ra 2... is that good for a small application like mine.. I probably goin to need 6-8 light switches, 2 thermostats, and roller blind control. I cant seem to see what pricing is on those products. Thank you..
