Humidity sensor for ELK, esp. at keypads?

All,

I would like to monitor the relative humidity at each of my four keypad locations using my ElkM1G (which is also tied into Homeseer, if that helps). I would rather NOT use the Oregon Scientific sensors for this application, although I use them in other areas. Seems like there should be a simple (and hopefully inexpensive) add-on for this purpose that would transmit data over the keypad wiring, but I haven't found it. Can anyone offer ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

There is a past post where Spanky indicated that Elk was working on 1-wire integration which could be ideal for this (many people raised the humidity desire in the thread). Right now, i think you're out of luck as i am pretty sure the card reader is the only local add-on on the keypads at the moment...

I was hoping 1-wire could offer me the elk integration to 1-wire sensors i would need for controlling pool heating (both solar and propane) - which is discussed in another thread:)

The M1KAM provides a 1-wire interface. You can use a temperature OR humidity sensor on the 1-wire circuit. This feeds back as the temperature for keypad in which the M1KAM replaces. Humidity will be a value from 0 to 100, but for now displayed as a temperture value. Rules will work for it also.

Ah, Spanky - you're killin' me here! I don't want to replace my perfectly good keypads, and I really don't want to have to choose between temp OR humidity. I just want a nice, LITTLE box or something that sits below the keypad (inside it would be even better) and feeds humidity levels back down the line. I wouldn't care if it updated only every 10 minutes or so, but being able to monitor temp AND humidity has got to be a great feature you guys could sell. Keypads are placed at various, distant places around a house, and that's exactly the way many of us (most of us?) would want to monitor temp and humidity for comfort. Go talk to the marketing guys, and I bet they'll salivate over this one!

Thanks for the reply, though, and let me know if something changes.

I agree. I think there is an impressive demand for a 1-wire solution in regards of temperature/humidity monitoring that is can easily be integrate with our ELK system. I have been waiting for this one for a while.

It would be nice to have a poll to see the interest of the CocoonTech members in this regard. I’m pretty sure that we are many to have this expectation from ELK products.

In the mean time, I will get more information about the THOL board that Marc (Hult) has developed. http://www.cocoontech.com/index.php?showto...15&start=15

The problem I see with the current implementation is unless I am wrong, a 1 to 1 relationship. Like you buy a M1KAM for around $70 and it only supports 1 sensor. Unless I am wrong and you can daisy chain multiple. If you can hook up several combination of temp and humidity to a M1KAM then it would be reasonable.

I agree with all comments made about the temperature/humidity and M1. I believe ELK will get there eventually.....bugger if if need a solution now. I will be going a M1KAM and a 1 wire humidity sensor even though it is not supported in Australia (well it wasn't when I spoke to Greg K last).

Is there a 1 Wire humidity sensor that looks nice and that could be wall mounted. Building a new home and am looking for a nice cleaning looking solution. Be interested in what other members are using.

Fleetz
